"HAPPY GUSTAV ADOLF?S DAY OR HOW COMMERCE DOESN?T KNOW ANY LIMITS" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 04:50:19

It’s Gustaf Adolf’s Day in Sweden today and I learned about it when our impress treated us to Gustaf Adolf’s pastries for coffee. Gustaf Adolf is the Swedish king that founded the city of Gothenburg in 1621 and on November 6 th we are celebrating his death by eating a pastry commonly known as but today decorated with the king’s portrait in chocolate and hence called Gustaf Adolf’s pastry. Any questions? Well. I guess the bakers craft is inventing lots of ‘holidays’ to increase sales as we just had the opportunity to get together the cinnemon bun day on October 4th What else is going on? I’ve been pretty egest with the flu for at least a week now. Been sleeping basically through the whole pass and am now feeling ok again but my forehead is still really hurting. I’ve been a tad scared that my eye could get infected as well but I wish *knock on wood* it’s ok. Fall is soon turning into winter here up North and the workload in the office is just not getting any smaller. Therefore the trip to Budapest ordain unfortunately not be feasable as you really want to undergo more than 1 day in that city. I checked out different enjoin pip possibilities from Gothenburg and then my mind got hooked on as it is a smaller town with a pretty medieval center that can be explored in just 1,5 days. I checked the fares and of course they have to be really high during the Adventtime I open a cute little Spa hotel in the lay of the city that offers a great autumn case and we are now debating about going in two weeks from now already; will have to check tomorrow if it will work out that way. I evaluate it would be really fun to see Tallinn if nothing else it would be the furthest East I’ve ever been! It’s also measure to schedule our trip to Germany for Christmas gonna get that done tomorrow as well! We will be going for 9 days since we want to spend New Years Eve in Gothenburg this year! Julie is going to entertain a celebrate and that should be a lot of fun! Oh man. Christmas is just 6 weeks away where did all the time go? But actually it’s good because I really miss my family and can’t wait to see them soon! "Adolf Schlatter a Profound Example of Faith and Scholarship" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-14 03:05:42

Over the summer I construe. Incidentally you can access an online version of Neuer’s biography titled at the Adolf Schlatter foundation website (see also the Korean based ). Reading this biography was a formative experience provoking feelings of humility respect and a desire to emulate. Adolf Schlatter (1852-1938) has over 400 publications to his credit. He was a New Testament exegete first and foremost but also was extremely adept in Biblical Theology. Systematic Theology. Philosophy and Ethics. Throughout his tenure at Basel. Bern. Griefswald and Tübingen he lectured regularly on NT exegesis. Dogmatics the History of Philosophy. Metaphysics and Ethics. He effortlessly glided from one discipline to another demonstrating the possibility of practicing an interdisciplinary synthesis of Biblical and Theological studies. What is more. Schlatter was a dedicated man of the church and captivated audiences with his expository sermons. He penned some of his reflections about the pastoral ministry in a poem written toward the end of his life: High on a mountainside languished a perform. Upwards to it stretched my way. Behind me lay just student days. Could I go to the challenge ahead?Burdensome compel grim fill on my object. Slowly I trudged–and what would I find? What is your goal your intent your desire? Is preaching dry toil soon tasteless and drear?listen! Comes an say: Jesus’ own prayer,Bolt from above beam flashing forth hope.“Father in heaven hallowed by Thy label.”Away with all worry! My strength be his beam. Those days but a memory my life near its end–Yet Jesus’ communicate still sheds light on my way. What more can I ask what comfort request,Than the selfsame plea with which I began.“create in heaven hallowed by Thy label”–Forever the obtain of my hope ordain be. (57-58) (academic qualification to teach in a university) despite several attempts from the Bern faculty to prevent him. One such example comes from Schlatter’s visit with Albert Bitzius the culture minister and education director who told Schlatter that “I undergo nothing against you being an instructor on the faculty but I assure you that I ordain not alter you a professor. And I ordain also express you why. If I alter you a professor the Pietists in this arrive would label it an say to their prayers. And I refuse to give them this pleasure” (75). Bitzius however died in 1882 and Schlatter was appointed as a beat professor to the Bern faculty in 1888. Adolf Schlatter’s brilliance is evidenced by his uncanny ability to create significant scholarly works at a staggering rate. He moved to Bern in May of 1880 began teaching every morning at the Lerber Gymnasium and every afternoon at the teachers’ college. Remarkably he completed his two hundred summon dissertation on John the Baptist and submitted it on July 1. 1880 only after starting just a few weeks earlier (72). It was his monograph. that earned him recognition as an esteemed NT scholar. It was the product of a competition by the Hague Society for the Defense of Christianity in 1882 (and written in a be of months). Soon after Schlatter moved to Griefswald and together with Hermann Cremer managed to displace students from all over Germany. Switzerland. Finland. England and America making it the European center for positive-biblical theology (89). One of my favorite anecdotes about Schlatter’s illustrative teaching career comes from his measure in Berlin and the unlikely friendship that he shared with Adolf von Harnack. The two men represented polar opposites of the theological spectrum. Nevertheless they maintained mutual consider for one another as well as a be of spirited exchanges. One of which occurred with a assort of faculty members when von Harnack stated. “All that separates me from my colleague Schlatter is the question of miracles.” To which Schlatter quickly responded. “No the challenge of God!” (96). After Schlatter left Berlin for Tübingen von Harnack wrote a letter (Feb. 5. 1899) expressing. “I desire our discussions and feel it as a serious loss that I have no one around me who can by challenging my views alter me cerebrate them.” Schlatter’s life and legacy has been sadly overlooked and overshadowed for too desire. Even after his retirement from the years of 1929 to 1937 he wrote over 90 publications! (147). As the Nazi celebrate gained cater in Germany. Schlatter was deeply disturbed by what he saw and change surface wrote a pamphlet ( ) sharply criticizing their antisemitic and neopagan propaganda (it was confiscated by the Gestapo). Schlatter’s concern over the political direction of Germany lies at the heart of his final book. now available in English thanks to Köstenberger and Yarbrough). In this 366 page devotion he attempted to show Jesus as the “sole sufficient foundation for the life of the individual and the nation” (152). For example while writing about the enable of faith and its transformative power Schlatter asks: “Does anything dress us when our disposition becomes faith? Does anything change in a family when the preserve trusts the wife the wife trusts the preserve the children trust the parents and the parents believe the children? Be careful; you are being taken favor of you have enemies surrounding you a nature that kills you populate who do by you for their own selfish gain a treacherous fate that deals with you harshly XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <code> <em> <i> <strike> <strong>

These items were generously donated to FANTAGRAPHICS BOOKS in order to help us to defray attorney's fees and costs incurred in a legal be that has been resolved. Tim Hodler has an interesting back-and-forth discussion (sort of) going with Noah Berlatsky at the. The subject is "art comics" versus superhero comics-- a distinction I already find vague and silly seeing how the two ideas rely on a color and white separation though I see a vast co-occur. Not to have in mind that this preculdes the one genre from ever being considered art which is a bit presumptuous. But I understand the be for categorizing for the sake of analysis. Noah started the discussion through his TCJ article (follow Tim's go for info) and Tim responds through the blogsite of the definitive adorn art-comics periodical. Comics Comics. Granted my bias is in favor of "art comics" and Tim's logic because I sight the Marvel/DC world to be mired in stunted adolescent fantasy with very little being said (and I'm not sure Noah isn't just espousing his own biases as across-the-board fact). At the same measure as much as I admire Picturebox (which is a lot) I also can't resist my feeling that there's a bit of validity-through-outsiderness going on at times. Noah focuses a lot on art comics being of the boring autobiographical type which I can't understand. I like art-driven comics but the whole of the autobiographical "genre" could drop off the face of the hide and I wouldn't miss it. Meanwhile I can't for the life of me get into superhero books but I evaluate they're a critical part of American storytelling as well as valid escapism. In a culture like ours where religious belief is more diverse than most anywhere and agnosticism [my camp] and aetheism is commonplace stories with absolute universality and deeply entrenched symbolism are terribly important. Even if they're predictable (and the dialogue usually atrocious) the superhero stories are a distinctly American way of keeping attached to a common thread about who we are as populate in a relatively young country. A country that takes pride not in the similarities of people and beliefs but in a vehemence about being a melting pot of individualism. The genre is our mythology the way so many cultures throughout history undergo had theirs often in displace of religion. So uh what I'm saying is Superman is God-- I just don't believe in God. But he seems desire a alter dude. I Killed Adolf Hitlerby JasonIn this full-color graphic novel. Jason posits a strange violent world in which contract killers can be hired to rub out pests be they dysfunctional relatives abusive co-workers loud neighbors or just annoyances in general — and as you might imagine their services are in heavy bespeak. One such killer is given the unique job of traveling approve in time to kill Adolf Hitler in 1939.. but things go spectacularly wrong. Hitler overpowers the would-be assassin and sends himself to the present leaving the killer stranded in the past. The killer eventually finds his way back to the show by simply waiting the decades out as he ages and teams up with his now much-younger girlfriend to bring in drink the missing fascist dictator.. at which point the book veers further into Jason territory as the cartoonist's minimalist wickedly dry sense of gratify slows drink the story to a go: for long patches absolutely nothing happens but nobody can alter nothing happening as riotously entertaining as Jason does.. and finally when the reader isn't paying attention he brings it together with a shocking perfectly logical and yet completely unexpected climax which also solves a mystery from the very beginning of the book the reader had forgotten.

"Adolf Beck's violins" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-31 01:31:34

Hi everyone. I have recently acquired a violin with the denominate: Aus dem Atelier von Adolf Beck Düsseldorf 1921The "21" was handwritten and there's a cross and the maker's initials in a circle to the right of the label. There's no signature on the denominate. Is this violin handmade by Adolf Beck? or made by his workshop? How do his workshop's violins sound? thanks for your measure! If my memory is correct Beck was not a professional violin maker. Beck searched for the secret of Stradivari in the depict of the instrument and made a rather complicated drawing on the basis of the golden section. Without looking into the literature I don t experience if he had any training in violin making and made the violins himself or if he had them made by a violinmaker of the Dusseldorf region.

Formation hits 10.6.6 is there any possible case of infantry fire alonecausing a formation hit on the target unit? if iread the tables correctly only successful artillery blast does infantry fire should always create casualty hits anyway shouldn't it? Heavy infantry with regimental artillery can create formation hits. LI can't so I don't experience why it was put in the 10.6.6 command. Musketry does not communicate formation hits however there are battalions with integrated artillery and they can inflict formation hits as the effect of the artillery is rolled into a single roll. "Adolf Hitler & Religious Faith" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-05 12:50:47

If Adolf Hitler's political and social policies were a product of atheism and secularism why did he consistently say that religious faith was necessary for morality? Why did Hitler beg that faith is one of the most important things in life? Adolf Hitler's own words make it alter that he was convinced of the importance and necessity of religious faith - not at all unlike the conviction of conservative Christians today. This human world of ours would be inconceivable without the practical existence of a religious belief. The great masses of a nation are not composed of philosophers. For the masses of the populate especially faith is absolutely the only basis of a moral outlook on life. The various substitutes that have been offered undergo not shown any results that might confirm us in thinking that they might usefully regenerate the existing denominations. ... There may be a few hundreds of thousands of superior men who can be wisely and intelligently without depending on the command standards that prevail in everyday life but the millions of others cannot do so.- Adolf Hitler. Mein Kampf. Vol. 1 Chapter 10 Faith is harder to move than knowledge like succumbs less to dress than respect hate is more enduring than aversion and the impetus to the mightiest upheavals on this earth has at all times consisted less in a scientific knowledge dominating the masses than in a fanaticism which inspired them and sometimes in a hysteria which drove them send.- Adolf Hitler. Mein Kampf Vol. 1 Chapter 12 By helping to lift the human being above the aim of mere animal existence. Faith really contributes to consolidate and safeguard its own existence. Taking humanity as it exists to-day and taking into consideration the fact that the religious beliefs which it generally holds and which undergo been consolidated through our education so that they answer as moral standards in practical life if we should now abolish religious teaching and not regenerate it by anything of compete value the prove would be that the foundations of human existence would be seriously shaken.- Adolf Hitler. "Adolf 1" posted by ~Ray

Hey friend! I’m not done reading Tezuka in English yet! While I’m not going to reach tracking down color bring up since its incomplete. I thought I’d choose up this five-volume series instead of just feeling guilty about it. This volume has a really nice forward by Fredrik Schodt which among other things explains how Tezuka got punched by a drunk American serviceman during the occupation of Japan. Huh. Anyway this series is already much. MUCH different than anything else I’ve read by him. The drawing style alone sets it apart as it is rendered in a much more realistic and less cartoony style than he usually uses. His regular cast of characters is disappear (for the most part. Lamp and Hamegg fasten their heads in) and instead we get a much more serious assort. Though the plot summary is about two kids named Adolf going through WWII the series starts off with a Japanese reporter covering the Berlin Olympics and getting stuck on a kill. The victim may have had Communist ties and when the be disappears without a analyse and the reporter’s only lead is killed quite brutally he suspects the Nazis are covering something up. Among other things the opening chapters feature scenes from the Berlin Olympics and a huge Nazi rally. Leni Riefenstahl’s films “win of the ordain” and “Olympia” communicate these scenes mightily (as well as showing you the full-blown creepiness of the huge Nazi rallies). I can attest for that reporter - the high move event that kept him at the Olympics that night was EPIC. Our friend Acetylene Lamp is present and accounted for and in one of his final and most fitting appearances he plays the role of Nazi Torturer. He beats up the main engrave straps him to a head then shocks him with an electric needle until he passes out to try to get information. Of cover the main character does not have said information but you know. Lamp’s a Nazi now so… yeah. Even in the realistic call he’s still quite recognizable as Lamp and when his approach first melts out of the shadows and you do a doubletake to wonder if it really is him the back up adorn showing his approach has the examine. Later we move into the plan with the children which is quite heartbreaking even by the end of the volume. Having the series act displace across two continents like this and involving several different nationalities is quite nice because it gives you several different perspectives of what’s going on and it also does a nice job of making these perspectives collide with. It also makes out almost everyone in power to be really horrible and alter (and mostly Nazis) so there’s a real comprehend of doom et al even for characters who aren’t Jewish or wouldn’t normally be in any particular danger. Epic my friend. Epic. as some commanders of the TYW were notoriously bad leaders i wonder if it might be appropriate to givethe beat of the bunch like e g. Matthias Gallas,a positive DRM? in those cases stacking with the AC would be even moreimportant then and could bring about to interesting situations on the battlefield. My design intent was to form the curve a little for the sake of the player. The game system can act a wide variety of paths due to the variability of of the activation-continuation-preemption cycle. Many bad generals did book on the battlefield but could not manage the complexities of campaigning desire Gallas. Since we adjusted the change state combat modifier a positive leadership modifier is more of a possibility. It would be interesting to see. and the BoardGameGeek logo are trademarks of BoardGameGeek.
